Off the well-beaten tourist track, a surprise awaits you, nestled in the foothills of the
picturesque Longfellow Mountains, in the lake district of western Maine. Discover a
jewel-like encapsulation of what rural living was like in days gone by. The eighth
generation of your hosts' family still calls it home. Enjoy a side of Maine that few
know of.
Three historic homes are available with complete housekeeping: East Wing

Lilac Cottage (c. 1800) has 2-3 bedrooms, 2 baths, living room,
kitchen, woodstove and sun deck. The house rates are $140 daily, $700 weekly, and $2200
monthly. 2 nights minimum July-August.
The rate for a single room & private bath in the main farmhouse is $80 per night,
double occupancy for 2 or more nights or $100 for a single night stay. Open all year. For our farm animals' peace, no pets; also, no smoking

Admire the stone walls lining miles of discontinued roads that provide great walking and
biking; explore cellar holes and abandoned orchards of bygone farms; have the fun of
gathering your own blueberries from our high-bush field; pick your own strawberries and
apples at nearby farms; milk a cow at a neighbor's dairy farm; read epitaphs on old
stones in a graveyard behind the still-active 200 year old Fayette Baptist church, erected
by an ancestor at the south side of our main pasture; marvel at the sunrise's colorful
reflections off the snow-capped Presidential range, 60 miles away; live out old ways
at the famous Norlands Living History Museum, whose lofty glistening church spire
beckons above a distant tree line, ten miles away; talk to the animals
our twenty-two sheep (all with names), two horses
(Jet and Chief), Crispy Critter (our venerable but still playful Shetland pony) and
Ebenezer (our personable donkey); go moose hunting with your camera; go antique-hunting
with your pocketbook (loads of shops in historic Hallowell!); find 'culture' at
Monmouth's magnificent, high-turreted Victorian summer theater, or Brunswick's summer
music theater; swimming, fishing and boating on beautiful
clear lakes and streams that surround us (we provide free canoes and kayak rentals); find
fabulous mountain climbing, hiking and beaching at close Mount Blue State Park; take easy
day trips to our famous coastline; ride up Mount Washington's cog railway; visit Maine's
state capital with its award-winning museum, just eighteen miles away; come winter, ski
the best of our downhill slopes and well maintained cross-country trails and skate on our
farm pond; in leisure moments, curl up in front of a cozy fire and be entertained by an
unusual collection of newsy diaries, letters, poetry, published family history and a
photographic collection of colorful ancestors who lived here.
